Thank You for your interest in
Awareness & Self-Defense Class
This special class teaches awareness, avoidance/prevention, and self defense techniques against assault of all types to include sexual assault, home intrusion, and public safety. Learning about the assailant, the victim and how fear and pain affect you will give you the knowledge toward self-defense. Knowledge is power when it comes to your personal safety and the safety of your family.
Do you know what to do if you find yourself a victim of a violent crime?
Do you and your family members know what to do in the case of a home intrusion?
Have you given your family members or friendsco-workers permission to leave you in a violent situation?
All these questions and many more will be covered in our presentation. You will learn about:
- awareness ideas
- prevention techniques
- actual self-defense (escape) techniques
- how to be more cautious and alert to your surroundings
- how to incorporate prevention in your daily routine
- to be aware of how you will react in a frightful situation.
Nothing taught will be fail-proof, however, many ideas, experiences of others along with some escape techniques will empower you to develop and maintain a “survival mindset”.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTORS:
Mrs. Shelia Baker has 30 years of martial arts experience in karate, jujutsu, Okinawa weapons, aikido and Chinese tai chi qi gong. She is presently a sixth-degree black belt and with her husband, Ken, owns the Sagasu Family Martial Arts school in Leavenworth. She teaches martial arts and women self-defense and awareness programs. She served in the Leavenworth County Rape Crisis Organization as president and as an advocate for nine years. In working with the victim of sexual assault she gained insight to the way the offender chooses his victims…. what he is looking for…. why he chooses his victim…and what many victims have done to survive. She believes in stressing the importance of awareness, prevention and the development of a survival mindset as a major part in self defense training.
Mrs. Karen Baker has been practicing martial arts since age 3 years old and is presently an instructor & program director for the Sagasu Family Martial Art. She is a third-degree black belt with training in Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Kung Fu. She will be assisting in the discussions and self-defense techniques. Her martial arts goals are teaching students of all ages about the discipline and respect required of a black belt and the use of self-defense and the importance of awareness and prevention of violent crimes.
